Main St (SR 63, Sec. MRS) Sidewalk and Shared Use Path Project - Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) Project Update

Lower Salford Township was awarded $985,000 of construction funding through the regional project selections of the 2021 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) program for the Main St (SR 0063) Sidewalk and Shared-Use Path project. This program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and requires PennDOT oversight throughout the design and construction process. The program targets various types of projects such as bicycle or pedestrian facilities, conversion of rails to trails, historic preservation and rehabilitation of historic transportation facilities to name a few.  The proposed project will ultimately provide a sidewalk connection from the Ruth Road intersection to the American Way intersection along the westbound side of Main St (SR 0063). Additionally, a segment of shared-use path will be provided along the Pheasant Run Apartment property to complete access from the apartments to Main Street.

As a result of the Federal funding and PennDOT oversight, the engineering and approval process must follow stringent requirements. The Township Traffic Engineer, McMahon, is working through the design process with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) Project Manager and PennDOT with approvals anticipated by August 2023. For a link to the public plans display exhibit that details the project information, proposed improvements and limits of the sidewalk and trail installation, please click below. Hard copies of the exhibit will be available at the Township building. Please contact the Project Manager, Stephanie Butler, P.E. of McMahon at [email protected] with any questions related to the project. The comment period is open through February 1, 2023 and will conclude with a project presentation at the February 1, 2023 Board of Supervisors meeting. Following the project advertisement and bidding period in late 2023, construction is anticipated to occur in 2024.
